NADINE LUSTRE VS KATHRYN BERNARDO - WHO RULES PHILIPPINE SHOWBIZ

Kathryn Bernardo has been comfortably sitting as the princess of Philippine Show business. The success of her teleserye, the Princess and I, got her noticed. It can be argue though that it was primarily brought upon by the loveteam of KatNiel.

Ironically, it was the love team of Kathryn and Enrique Gil that was originally being groomed, but the masses have spoken, and so KatNiel was born.

The ultra success of Got To Believe bannered by the loveteam, catapulted her to attain impressive popularity.

Out of nowhere, comes Nadine Lustre. Argument in favor with Nadine, she clearly has more box office success, owing to the might of movies such as Diary ng Panget and Talk Back and You're Dead.

What if there were no love teams? And who has real talents, not fabricated ones.

Samples?

KATHRYN BERNARDO SINGING

NADINE LUSTRE SINGING

It's always difficult to find clips of some celebrity singing that we are sure that are not lipsynched. Assuming both clips features real voices, let's all be honest, both of them are not exceptional.

Nadine though has the moves, gusto, and guts to do something extra.

How about their dancing skills?

Let's all get real at this point, Kathryn at this point is that the top of the food chain. But Nadine has serious moves in her. She is a real contender.

How real, ABS-CBN signed her (along with her loveteam).

This is an interesting move. They may not really go in the open and have them in opposing terms. But this is ABS-CBN's insurance move, in case KatNiel, fans out.

MAJA WILLING TO DO A MOVIE WITH KIM CHIU

MANILA - Maja Salvador said she is willing to do an acting project again with Kim Chiu, with whom she recently reconciled.

The two had a rift last year after Salvador admitted that she was dating Gerald Anderson, the former boyfriend of Chiu.

"I think lahat naman ay nakapag-move on na, parang lahat tayo ay tapos na sa kwento na 'yon, masyado nang luma. So,bakit mo pa babalikan yung hindi magandang kwento? So sa positive lang tayo, sa magandang pangyayari at sitwasyon lang tayo," Salvador explained.

Currently, Salvador is set to do a new series while Chiu is busy with primetime hit "Ikaw Lamang." The two previously co-starred in "Ina, Kapatid, Anak." - Report by Reyma Buan-Deveza, ABC-CBNnews.com

MOTHER LILY AND ALFIE LORENZO IN A SHOUTING MATCH

MANILA -- Tension gripped a media gathering on Thursday for the romantic-comedy film "Somebody to Love" when talent manager Alfie Lorenzo and Regal Films matriarch Lily Monteverde had a bitter exchange in the presence of entertainment press.

The confrontation was reportedly triggered when Lorenzo called the movie's director Jose Javier Reyes "malas" (unlucky). Lorenzo and Reyes had a rift in 2012 over the talent manager's ward, actress Judy Ann Santos, agreeing to do a film with the director allegedly without his consent.

The verbal spat between Lorenzo and Monteverde eased when security came to escort the talent manager out of the venue, which is owned by the film producer.

Before the start of the press conference, which doubled as a celebration for Monteverde's birthday, she expressed dismay with Lorenzo's behavior and urged members of the press not to be "scared" of him.

Thank you, Mother Lily Monteverde. Thank you.

— Joey Javier Reyes (@DirekJoey) August 14, 2014

On Twitter, Reyes thanked Monteverde following the confrontation. "Thank you, Mother Lily Monteverde. Thank you," he said.

Speaking with ABS-CBN News, Lorenzo said he will wait for the right time to talk to Monteverde, when they are both no longer emotional. He added that he hopes Monteverde will remember to be grateful for the things he has done.

KATHRYN BERNARDO PLASTIC SURGERY - DID KATHRYN BERNARDO ENHANCED SOMETHING?

Enhancement in show business is not a big deal. Almost everybody does it. After all, this is the business of show. Your looks is your basic and greatest capital. Talent, well can be "developed".

One of the recent issues that's been hanging around the industry is whether Kathryn Bernardo had any enhancement done. Did she, or did not she? What's in it for us then?

Here she is in her early days.

Make up, enhancement, photoshop? You be the judge.

NORANIANS VS VILMANIAN - THE NORA AUNOR - VILMA SANTOS RIVALRY

The Nora and Vilma rivalry is the most celebrated one in the history of Philippine Cinema. Marked by fanaticism, box office, and team ups, its phenomenon is a feat not duplicated since. Though many stars have emerged, on the succeeding generations since and arguably have eclipsed Nora or Vilma in terms of popularity and box office appeal, yet nothing could be compared to the rivalry of Nora and Vilma.

This is a classic morena against mestiza battle. Engaging in movies, variety show, singing, dancing, among others.

Nora Aunor commonly called as Ate Guy, is a critically acclaimed Filipina actress, recording artist, and film producer. Aunor has also appeared in several stage plays, television shows, and concerts. She is known as Philippine cinema's Superstar.

For those keeping count, Vilma edges Nora it appears. This can be attributed to the point in time wherein Vilma remained active in the business, while Nora was on a hiatus.

In recording though, it was pretty "obvious" that Vilma cannot cope with Nora. Nora Aunor in fact was discovered in a singing contest called “Tawag ng Tanghalan” [1] in 1967 thus calling her the “girl with a golden Voice”.

She set all-time high record sales which up to this day has not been surpassed and the artist with the most singles in Philippine recording history (with more than 260 singles).

Vilma had her share of music greatness in 1969. Vilma Santos released her first album in 1969 under Willears Record, selling 500,000 with the single “Sixteen” became the most played single of that year.

In the dance category, you better be the judge.

Like any rivalries, it elevated the industry, the product, and the consciousness of the masses that were into it.

To end this piece, we will share an article from the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The latest on this epic rivalry.

MANILA, Philippines—Noranians among the Catholic prelates, show of hands please.

If Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes had his way, actress Nora Aunor would be declared national artist pronto.

Bastes, a member of the influential Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), threw his support behind moves in Congress to name Aunor, called “Superstar” by fans, as a national artist.

The bishop said her perceived show biz rival, Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos and “Star for All Seasons,” can follow “years later.”

“I select and endorse Nora as national artist now,” Bastes said in a text message. ‘Himala’

He said the time was ripe for the country to recognize Aunor for her contributions to Philippine cinema, particularly for her portrayal of a religious visionary in the late National Artist Ishmael Bernal’s classic 1982 film “Himala.”

The film won the Viewers Choice Award for the Best Film of All Time from the Asia Pacific Region in the 2008 CNN Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

“She’s really good. I like her performance in ‘Himala,’” Bastes said.

But two other members of the CBCP said Aunor and Santos should be named national artists at the same time.

“Honor them both. They represent the divide between the Filipino crowd. The bakya (wooden clogs) and the sapatos (shoes) crowds,” said Baguio Bishop Carlito Cenzon, signifying the public’s social status.
Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros agreed with Cenzon and said that both artists deserved being named national artists.

The government bestows the title of national artist on those who made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.

“Both can be made national artist. Perhaps, this will not require an act of Congress. An executive order would do should President Aquino agree to it,” Oliveros said.
Other bishops

Other bishops, however, declined to give their views on whether Aunor or Santos should be named national artist first.

“[That’s] not my line,” said Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez.

His sentiment was echoed by retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz and Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco.

A rivalry also divides the House of Representatives, with Deputy Speaker Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada earlier urging the government to name Santos as national artist after Bacolod City Rep. Anthony Golez filed a resolution saying that Aunor deserved to have the title.

Tañada said Santos should also be named national artist for her contributions to the country’s film industry.

BATIBOT - WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BATIBOT

Batibot may be  unfairly known as the Philippines' answer to the Sesame Street. Nonetheless, It is one of the most popular, and best children educational show in the history of the country. It is more than a puppet and men show. It is a true Filipino gem geared towards helping the young Filipinos get a head start in reading, counting, and manners.

Its premiere episode was in 1984, with the name Sesame!, and eventually renamed Batibot several years later. Batibot in Filipino means "small, but strong and robust". As Sesame!, the program used both English and Filipino as the media of communication, but after evolving into Batibot, the show became a completely Filipino language children's educational show.

Characters such as:

Pong Pagong, Kiko Matsing, Manang Bola, Kapitan Basa, and of course Kuya Bodjie, bring not only the fun and learning, but the fun in learning as well.

When I was a kid, there was this news that Batibot will stop airing and one of the purported reason was that two of its popular characters will be "gone" and "can never be used again". I thought that they are going to destroy them. Them being Pong Pagong and Kiko Matsing.

It really made no sense back then, and it was both confusing and heart wrenching. Later I found out that both Kiko Matsing and Pong Pagong can never be part of any “Batibot” revivals, because both muppets were merely on loan from Sesame Street’s Children’s Television Workshop to Batibot back then, and the rights to these characters are still with the makers of “Sesame Street.”

It was all downward spiral from then on. There were attempts to revive them, but competition and the landscape of Philippine TV has changed since their heydays.

As for the rest of the cast, a great compilation of their status nowadays can be found here.

Opening theme.

KRIS AQUINO - HERBERT BAUSTISTA RELATIONSHIP

Kris Aquino has learned her lesson about keeping quiet.
When Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo sent her a text message to get her comment on Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista,  the Yahoo Celebrity 2014 Social Media Star of the Year nominee replied,   “Nothing to say. ”
Kris posted her text conversation with her “Tito Ricky” in her Instagram account last Monday, June 9.
‘What for?’
She also posted the following statement:
“It is tempting to defend myself but what for? I've stumbled several times in my public handling of private breakups. And after all those experiences, thank God natuto na ko. There is peace in keeping quiet kasi nga kagaya ng sinabi ni Boy Abunda, pag mainit pa ang sitwasyon at marami kang nabitawang salita pag kalmado na, pinahirapan mo lang ang sarili mo kasi ang dami mong kailangan walisin at ayusin. At 43 years old, finally learning when it's best to just keep my mouth shut.”
Herbert said in an interview in 'Bandila' on Friday, June 6, that he and Kris can no longer get back together again.
“Wala na akong magagawa, hindi na pwede. No.”
For the children’s sake
Pressed for a reason, the mayor replied, “Hindi na. yung mga anak ko siyempre, I love my children.”
After his interview, Kris posted a cryptic message on Instagram, which netizens believe refers to Herbert’s recent interview.
Kris' message was,  “Silence is better than b---t.”
It will be recalled that Kris first admitted that she and Herbert have been dating in April.  After that, she promised not to talk about him anymore to keep their relationship private. However, a week after her revelation, reports surfaced that Herbert stopped pursuing her because of family issues.
On Herbert's part, Bautista was first grilled on whether the two were ever in a relationship.
He quickly answered yes but was clearly taken aback when host Karen Davila followed up with: "Mahal mo ba si Kris Aquino?"
The city mayor first laughed off the question and quipped that he will let the segment's allotted time to run out before answering yes or no.
But after seeing that the hosts were adamant in waiting for an answer, Bautista replied: "Oo."
The former actor was then prodded further on whether he would like to get back together with the actress or if he would ever court Aquino again, to which he answered "no" to both.
Bautista was also asked to explain on why the relationship ended, just roughly a week after Aquino confirmed being 'partners' with the city mayor.
"Yung mga anak ko siyempre. I love my children," he said.
Bautista has two children--Athena (18) and Harvey (10)--with long-time girlfriend Tates Gana.
It was earlier reported by entertainment writer Ricky Lo that Bautista's two kids were affected that their father was dating Aquino.
Lo also wrote that the kids thought of going abroad with their mother in relation to the issue.
Citing an unnamed source, Lo also said that Gana and Bausista "haven’t really broken up" during the time the news of the mayor's new relationship broke.

PINOY BIG BROTHER (PBB) ALL IN NUDE PAINTING CONTROVERSY

What were they thinking?

Now the politician are on it. Senators are lambasting the said nude painting challenge.

Manila, Philippines --- Senators yesterday slammed the producers of “Pinoy Big Brother” (PBB), a popular reality TV show for challenging its female “housemates” to pose nude for an art painting.
Sen. Pilar “Pia” Cayetano, chair of the Senate Committee on Women, Family Relations and Gender Relations, said she was dismayed by the challenge posed during the controversial June 4 episode of PBB.
Cayetano said PBB producers should take note of Section 19 of the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 9710 (Magna Carta of Women) which discourages the derogatory portrayal of women in media.
Producers of the program, she said, need not wait for the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to take action.
“I am dismayed that one of the challenges was for the female housemates to pose nude,” said Cayetano, a staunch women’s advocate and principal author of the Magna Carta of Women.
“It should give a public explanation and apologize for that unwarranted challenge,” Cayetano added.
“This is an assault to the dignity of the women housemates. Asking a woman to consider posing nude in such a situation – where her acceptance to perform the challenge is made in exchange for points or benefits for herself or her housemates – is tantamount to coercion,” she said.
Cayetano said she agrees with the position of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) which first raised the issue that there is nothing wrong about women who pose nude for art, as long as the decision is voluntary.
“Clearly this was not the case with housemate Jayme Jalandoni, who was under pressure to follow the instructions of ‘Kuya’ in order not to be meted sanctions. To make things worse, the bargaining between Jayme and ‘Kuya’ happened on national television in full view of the public,” she said.
“In their desire to challenge and teach the contestants life lessons, they should be conscious of the rights of the housemates and know the limits when assigning tasks that could end up degrading women and trampling on their dignity. In this case, they crossed the line,” she pointed out.
“We must take note that aside from Jayme, another female housemate, Michelle Gumabao was also forced into accepting the nude painting challenge. Even if their team eventually backed out, the violation had been done,” Cayetano stressed.
Senator Ma. Lourdes “Nancy” Binay also slammed producers of the show, saying they compromised the dignity and the rights of women.
Binay earlier urged the MTRCB to review the code of conduct and the ethical standards that govern the Endemol franchise.
“All the tasks and challenges are part of the script which are approved by the PBB Management prior to execution. The responsibility does not solely fall on ‘Kuya’s’ lap–kasama sa daloy ng script ang management at buong production team,” Binay said.
On the other hand, and naturally, one of the hosts defended the episode. Toni Gonzaga, pasok:
“Alam naman ni Kuya yun. Alam naman ng PBB yung limitations niya.
“So, everything is just really to test and challenge a person’s principles and values na kinalakihan.”
